Do you want to experience British Columbia to its fullest? Travel to various remote communities across the province and work in an expanded scope of practice to provide primary care, public health, health promotion, and emergency care for First Nations individuals, families, and communities, including after hours on-call care.
As a Nurse in Charge, Resource Team you will work in a 5-week rotation (0.5 FTE) flying in and out of FNHA’s nursing stations in various BC First Nations communities. We are currently hiring for 3 permanent, part time Nurse in Charge positions.Costs of travelling in and out of community, as well as accommodation in the community are covered by FNHA.
To be a Nurse in Charge on the Resource Team, you must have (or be working towards) Remote Certification and you can live anywhere in BC. If you are not Remote Certified, FNHA can cover the cost of Remote Certification with a 2 year return of service.
1. Manages, plans, implements, delivers, and evaluates community and/or public health, primary care, and home care programs and services for a health care facility in a First Nations community, and ensures nursing care and practice standards are being implemented in the delivery of these programs and services.
2. Provides professional support, leadership, mentoring, advice on policy, practice, and programs, and direct supervision to nurses, health care, and administrative employees, including assignment of duties and assessment of quality of work.
3. Provides professional support, advice, assistance, and consultation on all nursing matters to First Nations leadership, community employed nurses, and communities to build capacity.
4. Applies and utilizes key nursing knowledge and critical thinking to choose options and to plan, implement, and evaluate programs and interventions to address health issues, taking into account relevant evidence, legislation, and regulations and policies.
5. Collects, assesses, analyzes, and applies information from various data sources to make evidence informed decisions for nursing services, assessment of health needs, program planning, and priority setting for the community with individuals, families, groups, and community leadership and interprets information for professional, non-professional, and community audiences.
6. Utilizes evidence and research to influence health policies, programs, and practices and synthesizes nursing and health knowledge from a broad range of theories, models, and frameworks to address the heath status of populations, inequities in health, determinants of health, strategies for health promotion, disease and injury prevention, health protection, case management, as well as the factors that influence the delivery and use of nursing and health services.
7. Advocates for public policy and services that promote and protect the health and well being of individuals, families, groups, and communities.
8. Involves individuals, families, groups, and communities as active partners to take action to address health inequities and foster a self management care approach for chronic conditions.
9. Collaborates and shares knowledge with colleagues, students, First Nations, and other members of the health team.
10. Leads and participates in collaborative, interdisciplinary, and intersectoral partnerships to enhance the health of individuals, families, groups, and populations in First Nations communities.
11. Manages the health facility team engaged in the delivery of integrated community health programs by assessing community health needs, coordinating, scheduling, and assigning work, authorizing leave and setting priorities, monitoring work, evaluating performance and initiating corrective action, initiating requests for staffing, resolving staff relations, providing advice on professional development and recommendations for training.
12. Informs community health nurses and other health unit staff of health and safety requirements at the work site.
13. Provides professional guidance and advice to First Nations health program managers and community employed health care staff relating to community health programs.
14. Chairs and facilitates meetings or committees involving other health facility staff, colleagues, managers, and other professionals in the community.
15. Collaborates with visiting health professionals, such as Environmental Health Officers and Dental Therapists, in the treatment of clients and the promotion of health education to First Nations communities.
16. Performs other related duties as assigned.
* Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from a recognized university or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
* Successful completion of approved training in public health nursing or approved training in obstetrics, mental health, or some other speciality.
* Two (2) years of nursing experience.
* Current practicing registration with the British Columbia College of Nursing Professionals (BCCNP).
* Requires a valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License
