    Under the direction of the Vice President, Strategic Engagement and Communications, the Designer, Strategic Engagement and Communications supports Castlemain’s consulting services across a range of strategic engagement and communications issues. They have excellent design and written skills, can distill complex information into easy to read documents, and are passionate about partnering with Indigenous communities and organizations to support their vision for the future.

    The Designer, Strategic Engagement and Communications will conceptualize and produce graphic art and visual materials to effectively communicate information for our clients and for Castlemain’s internal and corporate communications. They will work collaboratively and provide overall project support to other Practice Areas, as needed.

    Job responsibilities

    • Develop brands for clients, including working with Indigenous artists to turn artwork into valuable brands and branded material;
    • Develop and design branded MS Office templates and printed materials such as newsletters, posters, mailouts, reports, proposals, and publications;
    • Source and design branded merchandise, banners and displays;
    • Estimate and manage the production and printing of materials;
    • Design digital assets for website and social media;
    • Consult with clients and leading kickoff meetings;
    • Provide recommendations and direction to clients and Castlemain staff on design best practices;
    • Manage small and medium-sized design-based projects as skills and experience develops;
    • Use company systems for time tracking, project management in alignment with Company guidelines;
    • Interact with our Indigenous clients, staff, visitors, government agencies/personnel; and
    • Provide project support to other Castlemain Practice Areas as required.
    • Post-secondary education in a relevant field, such as graphic design, graphic communications, or a related field;
    • Minimum of three (3) years of graphic design experience;
    • Creative ability, as demonstrated by a portfolio of work;
    • Respectful of Indigenous culture and proper representation of images and artwork;
    • Succinct and professional writing style;
    • Ability to work effectively both independently and with a team;
    • Professionalism in representing the organization at meetings with clients;
    • Excellent organizational and planning skills;
    • Ability to prioritize and complete multiple assignments, meeting deadlines and budgets, while ensuring high quality work;
    • Strong technical ability and experience with a range of software applications such as Adobe Creative Suite, MS Office Suite templates
    • Working in a multidisciplinary environment; and
    • Experience as a consultant, or within a consulting practice would be considered an asset.

    Qualifications and skills

    Self-identifying as Indigenous, having first-hand knowledge or experience living in and/or working with Indigenous communities will be considered an asset.

    Additional duties and responsibilities may be added or modified as required throughout the course of employment.
