    Description :

    Position: Transition House Youth Mentor 
    Contract: Full time (Present-March 2020) 

    The Mentor/Leader works with Youth Leaders and Youth at both the First and Second Stage Transition Houses to focus on Leadership Development and Mentorship for the Transition House Youth Resource programs and activities. 

    REPORTS TO: Executive Director 


    • Guide youth in developing their leadership and mentorship skills 

    • Create monthly activity Calendars 

    • Ensure that program preparation is done prior to each activity 

    • Letting go healing circles; Coming of Age Ceremonies; Sweat Lodge Teachings; Life skills; Healthy Communication; Journaling; Medicine Wheel Teachings/Elder Story telling; Group Exercises/Healthy eating on a budget 

    • Assist youth with fundraising ideas 

    • Assist youth with the program planning development process 

    • Facilitate ongoing dialogue with youth 

    • Recruit youth to become and remain involved with the Transition House Youth Resource activities 

    • Conduct referrals 

    • Coordinate transportation as required 

    • Assist with the day to day operations for the project, including facility maintenance and usage, and light janitorial duties 

    • Evaluate, assess and adapt programs and activities for optimal effectiveness 

    • Enforce and recommend Policy and Procedures to govern the Transition House Youth Resource activities 

    • Network with community resources and mainstreaagencies to develop partnerships to implement programs, services and activities 

    • Attend community Meetings and Workshops as required/directed 

    • Provide Statisticaand Report information as required 


    • Education and/or Experience in the delivery of programming for Youth 

    • Strong interpersonal, communication, organization and leadership skills 

    • Facilitation and presentation skills 

    • Knowledge of Indigenous culture 

    • Demonstrated ability to work in a flexible work environment 

    • Report writing experience 

    • Available to work flexible hours, days, evenings and weekends 

    • Ability to work independently and be a self-starter 

    • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License and ability to obtain Class License 

    • Possess or willing to obtain Standard First Aid/CPR 

    • Employment is subject to a Criminal Record Information/Child Abuse Registry check
