    Description :

    We have an opportunity for a security manager to join our Corporate Security department in our Kelowna office for a temporary assignment of approximately one year. In this role, you’ll be responsible for offices in the interior region of the province to ensure the staff and assets of WorkSafeBC are safe and secure.


    What you’ll do

    As the manager of Corporate Security and Emergency Management you will:

    • Conduct risk and threat assessments
    • Provide leadership for security and investigation activities and the development of emergency response action plans and procedures
    • Manage the day-to-day operation and administration of security services to ensure the protection of WorkSafeBC employees, visitors, physical property, information, and assets
    • Manage contract security staff and identify organizational changes required to maintain an efficient and effective security service
    • Develop and implement security focused information and data management systems
    • Conduct regional office inspections to complete security audits, identify the security gaps, and develop consequential plans
    • Conduct or assist with the development of a hazard, risk, and vulnerability assessment for each area office

    We’re looking for someone who can:

    • Effectively conduct internal investigations and investigate cases of fraud, theft, and vandalism
    • Manage a high volume of complex cases under time constraints, while dealing with changing and conflicting priorities, using a variety of workload management processes and tools
    • Apply active listening and interviewing techniques to gather and clarify information
    • Clearly and concisely explain, interpret, summarize, and present information, both verbally and in writing, at a level appropriate to the intended audience
    • Build and maintain trusting and respectful working relationships in a confident and empathetic manner with staff, clients, and colleagues in an often sensitive work environment
    • Manage and motivate staff to maintain high levels of service to achieve departmental, divisional, and organizational objectives
    • Use Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, Outlook) and in-house security programs


    Your experience and educational background:

    • A minimum of five years of related experience in law enforcement, investigations, or corporate security
    • A minimum of three years of experience in conducting risk and threat assessments
    • Experience with the development of emergency response procedures is required
    • A post-secondary degree in a related discipline such as criminology, psychology, or security
    • Security certification must be obtained within 2 years from the start date
    • An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered
