As a CHPC you are caring and passionate about helping others. You are a motivated and comprehensive teacher, strategic in your thinking and global in your perspective on the evolution of nursing practices. In the role of CHPC, you will provide education, thought leadership, and consultation on clinical practice services. This will include orientation, training, in-service, clinical support, and clinical competency assessments to nurses who provide health services to First Nations communities in British Columbia.

    The CHPC delivers professional nursing practice and program consultation supporting the development, implementation, and management of community based nursing programs.
    •  Understands and respects First Nations cultural principles and protocols and is able to apply this understanding in clinical practices and services offered to communities and other stakeholders.
    •  Plans, organizes, and delivers a comprehensive range of professional nursing services, including training, consultation, assessment, facilitation, and evaluation to support the development of knowledge and skills for Nurses.
    •  Collaborates with communities, partners, educators, FNHA employees and nurses to design and deliver education and training for health professionals and community health workers who provide health services to First Nations communities in BC.
    •  Provides clinical expertise to nurses and allied health workers to assist them in providing care and treatment services to individuals, families & communities.
    •  Provides orientation to Health Managers/Directors in respect of discretionary and mandatory nursing programs. Leads, prepares, maintains and distributes information in support of relevant health programs
    •  Utilizes a quality improvement approach when offering educational opportunities and resources in a variety of ways that meet the learning needs and styles of nurses to provide health services to First Nations communities.
    •  Develops nursing service options and plans that provide advice and support to First Nations managed health services in decisions on nursing service delivery, management, impacts and risk.
    •  Serves as an expert resource, and provides clinical advice with respect to community health nursing knowledge and skills development and onboarding for nursing staff, mentorship nurses, student nurses, and other health care personnel.
    •  Contributes to knowledge development in the field of health care through participation in research studies and a range of program development initiatives, as required.
    •  Provides oversight for the operations of projects and initiatives in the relevant program area by actively engaging in planning, evaluating and implementing new initiatives and supporting through the change management and transition process
    •  With a relationship centered care approach, support communities in identifying nursing priorities, make recommendations on practise improvements and provide advice & supports on quality assurance.
    •  Develops and fosters internal and external partnerships to support ongoing educational needs of nurses working in First Nations communities. This may include the development of education plans, clinical decision support tools, revision of supporting documentation.
    •  Supports and advocates for evidence based and culturally appropriate prevention, care, and management of community public health, primary care and home & community care programs in First Nations communities across the province.
    •  Support practice according to the respective regulatory college standards of Practice are met by all Registered Nurses, including new graduate and student nurses, by participating in the development and implementation of a preceptorship and/or mentorship program.

    Education
    •  Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from a recognized university. Experience
    •  Three (3) years of experience in community/public health nursing providing clinical practice support and education to nurses or an acceptable combination of education, training and professional experience. Registration & Certification
    •  Eligibility or current registration with the College of Registered Nurses of British Columbia (CRNBC).
    •  Current CPR course for Health Care Providers (HCP). Asset
    •  Experience Nursing in First Nations communities
    •  Current certification in immunizations and communicable disease
