    JOB POSTING: Outreach and Publicity Assistant (for Reconciliation projects)

     

    Theatre for Living and Hello Cool World Media are looking for an Outreach and Publicity Assistant for their projects on Reconciliation between Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities. Theatre for Living is touring šxʷʔam̓ət (home) - an audience interactive play on Reconciliation.  Hello Cool World Media is doing outreach and promotions for Indian Horse, a film based on the Richard Wagamese book, on the experience and trauma of going to Residential School.  The film is going to launch on Orange Shirt Day on September 30th!

     

    We encourage Indigenous people to apply for this position, as the lived experiences of being Indigenous is invaluable in the Outreach and Publicity Assistant job.

     

    This is a unique opportunity to do work on two different social justice projects!  The role will begin with Hello Cool World from July - October, and at Theatre for Living from October to mid-March 2018.

     

    Outreach and Publicity Assistant job qualifications:

     

    Hello Cool World needs (30 hours/week July 1st - August 15th, 40 hours/week August 15 - Oct 15):

     

    The ideal candidate will be comfortable doing everything from serving food during a photoshoot, to working alongside the creative directors and clients to collaborate on project direction.

     

    Must Have Experience & Skills

     

    • Good social media skills & a desire to keep up with trends

    • Can work effectively across multiple projects

    • Ability to manage digital assets for creating social media posts

    • Ability to create and report on an outreach plan

    • Able to work independently as well as part of an outreach team

    • Good offline communications skills, able to use the telephone if needed!

    • Willing to hit the streets! (Network, table, leaflet etc.)

    • Organized, able to use collaborative project management software

    • Able to organize teams of volunteers

    • Able to get people out to events (screenings, workshops, performances)

    • Can think ahead and be proactive

    • Basic facilitation & market research skills

     

     

     

    Desirable candidate

    • Marketing or digital media education in some form - understands the components of a marketing strategy and action plan

    • Production management

    • Has an understanding of new story-based trends in monitoring, evaluation & learning

    • Some experience with Adobe suite (basic layout, photoshop, and minimal editing)

     

    Superhero candidate qualifications (not essential, but a plus):

    • Video editing

    • Graphic Design

    • Photography

    • After Effects

    • Has their own vision of how they can advance their goals and build skills by doing work alongside our team

    Theatre for Living Outreach and Publicity Assistant job qualifications:

     

    Oct 15, 2017 - March 11, 2018, 40 hours/week

     

    The assistant will primarily support the activities of the Outreach Coordinator, getting the word out and fostering community connections around the project.

     

    The ideal candidate will have experience working with grassroots organizations, First Nations communities, as well as knowledge of the local cultural community. Excellent communications, networking and problem-solving skills are assets, as well as a passion for innovative cultural work, and social justice issues.

     

    The Outreach and Publicity Assistant agrees to the following in support of the Outreach Coordinator:

     

    • Act as the supporting outreach contact for the Company

    • Research, find, and connect with local, provincial, and national news media journalism outlets to get stories about the tour in the media

    • Answer telephone and forward, take message or respond to request *

    • Attend production and community meetings as necessary

    • Coordinate volunteer Publicity/Outreach team

    • E-mail - check and forward or print *

    • Help ensure all promotional materials are accurate

    • Keep office clean and tidy *

    • If necessary, represent Theatre for Living on Committees, meetings etc. *

    • Trouble shooting *

    • Help update media and community network databases

    • Work with the Outreach Coordinator and Publicist regarding alternative publicity and marketing through community organizations

    • Help work on opening night invitations

    • Help work with community cohosts to create local promotional materials

     

    * denotes a task shared by all Theatre for Living Staff

     

    It is understood that the Assistant Outreach/Publicity Coordinator may do some work outside the Theatre for Living offices as necessary.
